What is the Present Status of Sterr v. Trame?
This case challenges the $1.00 overcharge by the Illinois State Police, for a Illinois state mandated Firearms Owners Identification Card, which is, generally speaking, necessary to legally possess any kind of "firearm", stun gun, or most recently, a switchblade knife, in Illinois.
This case was originally filed in late 2015, by Thomas G. Maag and Peter J. Maag, of the Maag Law Firm, LLC, in Wood River, Illinois, on behalf of all residents of Illinois who were so overcharged.
The proposed class action was certified as a class action, and Thomas G. Maag and Peter J. Maag of the Maag Law Firm, LLC, appointed by the Court as class counsel, in June of 2017.
Class Notice was ordered on October 6, 2017, with much of the notice being sent by e-mail by the State Police, and the remainder being sent by U.S. Mail by Plaintiff's counsel, and posted on this website.
The case is set for status on December 4, 2017, and it is anticipated that the case will either be set for trial following that hearing, and/or a date will be set for filing and/or arguing summary judgment motions.
